Glaizeview Kitchen
Situated on a large, wooded lot, this home’s leafy surroundings inspired a palette of earth tones, including cabinetry painted a soft sage green and kitchen countertops fashioned of multi-hued quartzite. We also preserved the rustic beauty of wood beams and floors as a tribute to nature, the ranch-style architecture of the house, and the homeowner’s tastes.
Faced with designing a kitchen in a huge open space, we were able to offer an innovative solution—a U-shaped kitchen island which incorporates a built-in banquette. Given the layout of the space, and a framework of load-bearing beams and columns, this concept presented a challenge, but our team was able to bring a unique design concept to life in a creative way that thrilled everyone. The banquette seats up to twelve and offers views of a beautiful backyard.
We carefully designed glass-front cabinets and closed cabinets on either side of the range hood to achieve a pleasing symmetry at the range wall. The homeowners wanted to keep an existing range and other appliances, which wasn’t ideal give the size of the appliances. Happily, a stunning outcome doesn’t reveal the effort involved—a result of thoughtful design. A handsome butler’s pantry tucked in the back is an unexpected delight and eminently practical.
